The story and vision behind Utile

Why Utile?

I first noticed that around me, everyone wanted to help — without knowing who to help or how.

So I thought of “Utile”, a platform where people could list their skills, say how they think they can help those around them, what drives them, and be contacted by those who would like to benefit.

Then I thought of its counterpart: “Help”, which allows anyone to describe a situation where they need advice or a helping hand, and to be contacted by those who want to help.

Finally I thought: “That's a great project, but I have absolutely no knowledge of website creation, hosting, or domains — and I don't know who to ask.” Learning it on my own seemed unimaginable. So I thought of “Projects”, which allows those with ideas to find companions to help them make those dreams a reality together.

A platform for social connection

You will have noticed: there is no messaging system on the site. That is deliberate.

I notice that social connections are difficult to build around us, and I want this platform to be, as much as possible, a vehicle for creating local social bonds — reconnecting with the community and re-engaging everyday life in a civic and social approach, without relying solely on the goodwill of volunteers, but by revealing opportunities to share passions together. You therefore have the opportunity to contact participants directly using the contact details they have left for you.

Always be polite when writing to someone new, respectful to everyone, and grateful — even when a request doesn't work out.

Whether you want to offer your skills, share a project close to your heart, or find help overcoming an obstacle, Utile is here to connect those who can help with those who need it — for free, locally, humanly.

All skills are welcome

There is no skill too modest or too specialised. Gardening, cooking, DIY, repairing, listening, teaching, translating, transporting, accompanying — every talent has value for someone. If you are ready to give a little of your time and knowledge, your place is here.
